The Institute for Medical Improvement
Our History…
In 2001, Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems (EMHS) engaged the University of New England’s Center for Health Policy, Planning and Research (CHPPR) to complete a Community Health Needs Assessment, recently published in 2007 (CHNA Report). The initial study substantiated the need for comprehensive efforts to address severe chronic health conditions, to reduce the high cost of care and to expand critical access to comprehensive services in rural areas of Maine.
What We Do…
The IMI collaborates with rural healthcare providers and communities to implement sustainable evidence-based practices and to evaluate new practices that improve the quality of care and health status of the people of Maine. The IMI is also dedicated to supporting clinician-driven research in a rural setting through education and training, grant development, and project management.
What We Aspire To…
The IMI will become a leader in the implementation of projects that promote best practices, foster innovation in process improvement and reduce disparities in access to health services.
